According to the legend, originally the Kizhi Churches stood on the highest point of the on Kizhi Island — Naryina Hill. When the churches burned down, the peasants began to melt the logs for the new churches to the same place. But all the logs were magically carried away to the southern part of Kizhi Island: to the place where the Kizhi Pogost is located nowadays. This happened three times in a row. So, the peasants, considering it as a sign from above, decided to build new churches on their current site. Nowadays, Naryina Hill is crowned by the Vernicle Chapel from the village of Vigovo.
По легенде, первоначально на острове Кижи церкви стояли на самой высокой точке острова — Нарьиной горе. Когда они сгорели, крестьяне начали приплавлять лес к тому же месту, но его сносило к южной части острова Кижи: туда, где сейчас расположен Кижский погост. Так повторялось трижды, и крестьяне, сочтя это знаменьем свыше, решили строить новые церкви на их нынешнем месте. Сейчас Нарьину гору венчает Часовня во имя Спаса нерукотворного из д. Вигово.
