It has been a traditional small village containing four houses till the middle of the XX century. A great carpenter M. Yolupov lived in it at the beginning of the XX c. Now his descendant Yuri lives in one of the houses. His father, Boris Yolupov, participated in the famous restoration of the Kizhi architectural ensemble in 1950s. When Moscow architect A. Opolovnikov with his team started restoring the masterpiece of the folk wooden architecture the local carpenters, who preserved traditional techniques, became the basis and support of their plan. The wealth of knowledge accumulated by generations of Zaonezhie masters, conscientiousness, and talent have saved many folk architecture monuments from destruction. The formation of the Kizhi Museum in 1950s took place with the participation of carpenters: chapels, houses, barns and windmills were transported from different places. They have been assembled and restored at a new place and this is how the museum exposition that we can see now has been created.
