The village has been known since 1563. At the beginning of the XX c. it consisted of nine farmsteads. The village is located in the center of Volkostrov Island. The houses are facing the south because warmth was so important for a northern farmer. Most other villages of the region located along the shore are facing the water; the lake was a kind of a road, a street between villages. A part of ancient houses of Shuino village has been preserved.
