The village of Dudnikovo have always consisted of one house. Now there is one of the most ancient houses of the Kizhi region preserved in this village. It is the house of T. Sery. It was built in 1874. There exists a document, according to which the house cost 600 silver rubles at the moment of construction. Two brothers owned the house. One of them permanently lived in Saint Petersburg (farmers could be engaged in crafts not only in their villages but also leaving to another location for different periods). In the late XIX – early XX centuries the life of quite a large part of the Zaonezhie population was closely connected with the work in cities. It was reflected not only on their financial situation: Zaonezhie residents learned new skills, acquired knowledge, tastes, habits different from those that existed in villages. It, in turn, influenced various aspects of village life increasing the impact of urban cultural traditions.
The second brother, Gregory Sery, managed the household in the village. His farmstead represented a traditional farm of the late XIX century. In the center there was a large beautiful log house, a granary was located on the shore (grain should be stored close to water) and a threshing barn and a mill were behind the house, on a promontory. The main peasant occupation was farming and grain growing. It determined construction of buildings that were necessary to process and store it.
Rich farmer T. Sery, who built this house for his descendants, was generous in decorating it. There are fancy scrolled window surrounds on the façade and one can see multi-color paint marks under the roof eave. Details of many houses of the region were painted brightly. Window surrounds were painted in several colors – red, white and blue. House cladding, which was considered the sign of prosperity, was covered with ochre. In 1928 the family was dispossessed and a school was organized in the house. The school existed till 1950s.
